Bratwurst, kielbasa, cheeseburgers, deep-dish pizza and Buffalo wings were on the menu for the White House Super Bowl party. A perfect combination for a Super Bowl party, for sure, but one that is “surprisingly” inconsistent with the “obesity crusade” that the First Lady Michelle Obama is conducting against the eating habits of Americans.
She went on the TV circle to defend the criticism she received after the menu was publicized, saying that it’s all in the balance, that one can eat good food occasionally as long as after that we go back to vegetables.
A true statement, to be sure, as moderation in anything is the correct way to approach the individual battles we face everyday (I wish her own husband would heed that lesson when it comes to spending our money).
The problem is not the message of moderation, but the government intrusion that Mrs. Obama is advocating from her pedestal.
It is one thing to spur a campaign of messages directed to children and especially their parents to engage in healthy eating, food consumption moderation and more physical activity, but a completely different issue when the government imposes restrictions on cup cakes and pizza fundraises in schools, or salt consumption.
Bottom line is that the First Lady, as a non-elected official, should not be engaging in forcing her vision upon the American people.
It may be an oversimplification on my part, but what it looks like to me is that Michelle Obama is in the state of mind that while the White House and political leadership can indulge in fancy, costly and fattening feasting, the rest of us, the unwashed masses, must adopt the restrictions imposed by her.
Could that be, Mrs. Obama?
Just my thoughts!
