The Department of Justice has granted a waiver to the state of New York regarding its compliance with the MOVE Act (Military and Overseas Voting Empowerment Act) designed to give members of the Military deployed outside their home bases the right to exercise their voting privileges. The waiver was conditioned upon the assurance on the part of the New York State Board of Elections that absentee ballots would be shipped out to the Military by October 1st.
Well, as of today, October 9th, the ballots for New York City and several other counties have yet to leave New York, and with only 24 days left before the elections, the Military says that it may take up to 30 days for that mail to reach its destination.
This “oversight” on the part of the officials of New York City and the other counties will translate in members of the Military possibly not receiving the ballots before election day, in effect negating them the right to vote.
Considering the reality that the majority of members of the Military have the tendency to vote Republican, the omission on the part of mayor Bloomberg’s cronies, at least in NYC, is, to say the least, dubious and should raise everyone’s “fraud-alert” meter.
As I have written before, I find the behavior of everyone involved in this travesty of justice completely appalling. From the highest level of the Justice Dept. to the lowest form of life called Bloomberg, the manifest attempt to negate such an important right to those who are wearing the uniform of our Nation’s Armed Forces, goes beyond the inexcusable.
A thorough investigation should take place immediately, and those found responsible for this miscarriage of justice should be punished to the highest extent permitted by the law.
But this criminal activity, just like the case against the Black Panthers, will never see the light of day as long as the Department of Justice is run by such a corrupted individual like Eric Holder and the racist characters in the Voting Rights Commission of the DoJ.
The part that is even more infuriating is that the MOVE Act was passed to address just this type of unbelievable injustice after the thousands of votes cast by the Military in the 2008 Presidential Elections were thrown away.
To think that those who put their lives in danger for the benefit of the Nation are purposely negated such a basic Constitutional right, goes beyond the unacceptable, including the practical silence on the part of the Media at large on the issue.
In my humble opinion there are only two reasons for the failure on the part of officials to address this important issue.
One could be that those in charge of insuring that the absentee ballots are prepared and sent out on time are so utterly incompetent at their job that they should be promptly joining the unemployment line. Just as ignorance of the law is not an excuse for criminal behavior, incompetence should not be an excuse for employment. Naturally, those who may be incompetent are protected by government workers unions and therefore immune from any accountability.
The second reason, and one that is even more disturbing, is that those in charge of compliance with the Act are responding to the pressure of elected officials, like in the case of Bloomberg, who want to make sure that those ballots are not received by the voters.
These politicians may use excuses of time and funding, but they are as bogus as they are corrupt. There is no excuse of time, as it is very well known that this Nation holds elections every two years. If the closeness of primaries to the actual election day is such to prevent timely printing of absentee ballots, than the primaries should be moved up, and in any case, with today’s technology, time does not hold water as an excuse.
And there is no excuse of funding, as the waste perpetrated by government officials is staggering.
Ultimately, the core of the issue remains that there are forces at play in our country, in our political system, that appear to be bent on denying voting rights to those Americans who are serving the Country in the Military, either because they really do not care or they want that voting portion of our population ignored.
Just my thoughts!
