Mid-term elections are 30 days away and the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi shut down Congress to allow the Representatives to head home and campaign for re-election. And this is after they have just returned to Washington after their August recess.
The move has put a stop to any actual work these free-loaders could have been doing on behalf of the American people. Certainly, there is some truth in the fact that shutting down this Congress means that for the next 30 days they will not be able to inflict any further pain upon the people, but it still remains a nuance to me that with an economy in shamble and so many national issues to be addressed, the worthless Congress gets another vacation.
It is the belief of many that the actions of Pelosi are driven by a total lack of interest on the part of the Speaker toward the problems afflicting so many Americans and it is surely a valid and real point, but I have a slightly different opinion of the actions of Pelosi.
What I see is the Speaker issuing an intimidatory warning to the American people, especially in regard to the vote on the expiration of the Bush's tax cuts looming in January.
The message I get from Nancy is that she is holding up vote on issues that are of great importance to the American people, especially American small businesses, hostage in view of the predicted political slaughter that the 2010 elections are to be for her Party.
Basically, she is telling America that they better not hand a defeat to the liberals next month, reserving the power to punish the American people during the lame duck session of Congress before the new Congress is in place in January.
For example, if the vote on the repeal of the Bush's tax cuts was to be held before the elections, all indications were that Pelosi did not have the necessary votes to accomplish it, with many Democrats expressing their disapproval for an increase in taxes while the economy is in dire conditions.
But how much of that "dissent" is motivated by the demonstrated unpopularity of the Liberal agenda of Obama and his circus? How many of those Democrats distanced themselves from the leadership and agenda to trick their constituencies into re-electing them?
The warning Pelosi has sent is that if the incumbents are defeated, once back in Washington for the lame duck session, our country will pay dearly for the grave sin of opposing Obama and Pelosi and Reid's Communist agenda. And I am convinced that America will pay dearly!
Already, California Rep. Loretta Sanchez has declared that the lame duck session will see amnesty for illegal aliens become a reality.
Defeated Democrats will not have any reason to support making the Bush's tax cuts permanent for all Americans. Unless motivated by possible future political aspirations, they will have no qualms about legislatively lashing out at those who they consider as the ignorant masses, those who cling to their Bibles and their guns and believe in the US Constitution.
Pelosi's message to this American is clear: support Obama, her and the progressive agenda or else...
Just my thoughts!
