Tragedy In Arizona

By Semperpapa

The tragedy that unfolded in Arizona earlier today is one of revolting proportions.
A lone gunmen going on a senseless rampage, taking the lives of six innocent people and changing the lives of innocent others, between the wounded and the families, for ever.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is one of those who may be lucky to still being alive, but surely facing a long, possibly life long, rehabilitation battle.
Among the dead, a nine year old child, who should never have had to meet such a tragic and senseless end.

And there is the gunman, some 22-year old lunatic, Jared Loughner, who is obviously afflicted by severe mental illness, and who will, because of it, most likely escape the date with his executioner.

To me, that is all there is to the story, but that is not the way that America works today.
Fox News highlights that the is "bipartisan support" for the victims, just because the Congresswoman was a Democrat. How about support for the families and prayers for the dead and wounded because they were human beings? Should we not relinquish political labeling and insinuations when it comes to innocent people being massacred like this?

And how long before the blogosphere will start to see finger pointing to Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh.
How long before the tragedy in Tucson will become a crusade for the opponents of the Second Amendment.
I give it 12 hours, if it has not started yet.

This tragedy will become a tool in the hands of those who want to push their agenda, just like the tragedy in Colombine did, just like the assassination attempt at President Reagan did for Jim Brady.

The truth of the matter is that the actions of a deranged individual bent on imposing his murderous tendency on innocent people are not preventable, regardless of the number of laws are instituted.
Even in countries where guns are not allowed, insanity has its casualty list. How else one can find any rationale when witnessing incidents like people killing their entire family before killing themselves.

So today for this tragic event, we must separate ourselves from political labels and ideological qualifiers and elevate our thoughts and prayers for those who have directly been impacted by this crime and for our entire country mourning the loss of its citizens.

Just my thoughts!
