Navy's Misstep

By Semperpapa

Amazingly, this piece of News has hit the wire mostly in the Military blogs:

The Navy is going to name the latest of their San Antonio amphibious ships (LPD-26) after the late congressman John Murtha.

That is correct!

After the back stabbing that the ex-Marine perpetrated against his men while serving in Vietnam and after falsely accusing several Marines of atrocities after an incident in Haditha, Iraq, for which all the accused Marines have been acquitted, it remains a puzzling question the reasoning behind the honor that such action would impart on Murtha.
If the ship was destined to carry pork belly pigs, the name USS Murtha would be a fitting one.

The ironic part is that the Navy ship would be carrying up to 700 United States Marines once on deployment, and it would be interesting how the Marines would feel about being on a ship named after a man who betrayed their own. I trust that the Marines will come up with an appropriate, colorful nickname for this vessel.

Just my thoughts.
