Obama And The Media

By Semperpapa

I came across an article from Dana Milbank of the Washington Post. Here is the link to it

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/13/AR2010041303067_pf.html

It looks like even a left-leaning columnist from that leftist newspaper is not too happy with Obama’s treatment of the media,

The complaint is based on the attitude Obama is increasingly demonstrating toward the media coverage of his movements and actions.
Sure the President is always ready, willing and able to get some media member to offer him an audience, as demonstrated by the appearance that Obama has made on just about every show on the tube. There has never been a camera or microphone that Obama has not cherished under controlled conditions, his conditions.

What is becoming more apparent is that Mr. Obama is interested only in the manipulation of the media, in other words, Obama will use the MSM as long as he has complete control of the encounter.

It is not a secret that Obama is not a big fan of press conferences, leaning more favorably toward teleprompter controlled speeches and declarations, through which he can, via his rhetorical ability, blow enough smoke in the eyes of many American people to successfully wowing them.
Most of the time he does not even have to say anything concrete, but his usual audiences and the complacent media reporting have the desired effect.

The first detail of Mr. Milbank’s article that caught my eye was the mentioning of the security present in Washington DC.
Well, considering that there were so many high profile political leaders from so many countries, I would expect, in an era of al Qaeda terrorism, that security would be somewhat elevated.

Obviously, Mr. Milbank is one of those people who is made uncomfortable by the appearance of members of our Military, dressed like members of the Military, bringing me to ask myself why would anyone who has no ill intention against America, be intimidated by the presence of Military uniforms.
I have never read anything from Mr. Milbank and I am not about to, as I am not really that impressed with this particular piece of writing, but I will give the man the benefit of the doubt about what may appear to be mistrust of the Military (point driven home by his choice of words in mentioning what must have been a tragic accident of a National Guard truck hitting a bicyclist).

What is even more interesting to me is the comparison of Washington DC to Soviet-era Moscow.
If that was the case, though, Milbank would not be allowed to be there in the first place anyway, so the parallel is, in the least, hyperbolic.

One of the article’s lines that actually sort of resounded with me, even if for different reasons, is the mentioning of Obama being host to some of the worst dictators of our planet.
I found it disturbing myself, but as Milbank expresses his malcontent about the accessibility of characters like him to Obama grandstanding, I am disturbed by Obama welcoming so warmly leaders of countries that would not hesitate for a second, given the chance, to attack the United States, countries that, in the best of situations, do not have the interest of the United States at heart.

So while Milbank gets his skivvies in a twist over Obama’s willingness to keep the media in the dark, just the way the President likes it, I am sort of amused by the whole thing.

What I am not amused by is the direction Obama is quickly moving toward, in the Nuclear power arena.
As a good Progressive, the President has affirmed his intention to increase the support for and the influence of the IAEA, the UN entity that oversees nuclear energy issues, the same agency that, thanks to its ineptitude and corruption, has had an abysmal result in checking nuclear research in countries like Iraq, North Korea and Iran. All the while, continuously harping on the United States to disarm, as Obama has never seen an anti-American organization he did not like.

So here we have just another example of the elitism that pervades the MSM these days, where individuals like Milbank get all hot and bothered about being left out by the Socialist radical they help elect. They are all a big barrel of laughs when their champion isolates news outlets like Fox News, or when the One criticizes the First Amendment right of talk show hosts by labeling them “troublesome”, but have Obama curtails their desire of getting the juicy details of anti-Military and anti-American efforts and they are ready to make comparisons with the Soviet Union.
As I stated before countless times, they will be the first to suffer the consequences of Obama achieving his full agenda.

Just my thoughts!
