Purchasing Powers

By Semperpapa

With the Senate confirmation hearings over for the SCOTUS nominee Elena Kagan over, outbound Sen. Arlen Specter has been one of the few liberals to express his dissatisfaction with Kagan’s qualifications for the high court. At least until yesterday.

It appears that Sen. Specter has expressed to the White House his desire to remain in public life even after he will be finally unemployed next January, so the Obama administration is considering hiring the-two faced Pennsylvania politician in some capacity. And considering that Biden and Specter are good friends, the deal is all but certain.

ABC News reports these latest developments, including Specter’s sudden ‘change of mind’ on Kagan’s confirmation. He has declared his ‘potential’ support for Obama’s appointee, of course provided that the negotiations are satisfactory.

It appears that the only person left in America with some purchasing power is Obama, as he continues to buy political support by giving away taxpayers’ funded positions.
The reported potential job Specter would get in exchange for his support for Kagan is some sort of special envoy to the peace process between Syria and Israel.

I am not as incensed by the actions of the White House as I am by the selling out of Specter. Promising support for a clearly unqualified and radically activist nominee to the Supreme Court should not be based on a returned favor, as the appointment of Kagan to SCOTUS would be a detrimental action for our Nation for many years to come.
If Specter had reservations on the woman’s qualifications, reservations that have been wiped out by a job offer, the country should expect greater integrity in the performance of his job.

But, on the other hand, we are talking about two-faced Arlen Specter.

Just my thoughts!
