President Obama’s Energy Policy Solution: More Government

By Semperpapa

Last week, President Obama gave an Energy Policy speech at Georgetown University. He outlined his views regarding the energy crisis affecting every American these days, as we try to keep on going to our jobs paying double for gasoline that we paid two years ago.

Speaking to a complacent audience of brainwashed college students and faculty, Mr. Obama’s message can be summarized in two simple words: government control.

And that is exactly what the whole speech was about.

Even as we may put aside the lies about the drilling permits that the Dept. of Interior has granted in the last year, which is ONE!, it is quite amazing to hear the President even mention the issue of Brazil. He proudly mention the American taxpayers’ money going to the South American nation for the development of their oil industry, for the exploitation of their “newly founded” oil reserves, which American taxpayers’ money will help develop so that then Brazil will be able to sell back to America for a lofty profit.

In other words, as the price we pay at the pump for our transportation and our heating needs goes up, Obama is basically calling for an increase in the fiscal burden to the American people in order to finance a foreign nations ability to export back to America, all the while oil platforms and rigs across America remain idle, American jobs vanish and immense domestic reserves, like in Alaska, across the lower 48 and along 6,000 miles of coastlines, remain inaccessible because of the environmental terrorism this administration and past ones have been catering to.

Again, the Obama solution is more government. Subsidies, incentives, all good sounding words, all inspiring promises for the drooling audience, but words that do not send tingles of excitement up the legs of clear thinking Americans.

What government control means is that the ruling class, the political elite will have the chance to decide the who, what, where and why of our future energy issues. Just as in the case of Petrobras, as I have stated before, the $2 billions in guaranteed loans paid by American taxpayers will help boost the dividend profits of George Soros, in turn lining the pockets of those engaged in the march of our Country toward Socialism. How convenient.

Government control also means that other forces, like unions, will have a lobbying power in the decision making about what company get a “subsidy” or not.

If the President was actually sincere about his desire to solve the energy crisis affecting the American people, he would make sure to remove the government tentacles from the oil industry.

Unless the oil industry is nationalized, a la Venezuela or Brazil, the government should stay out of that arena and allow the industry to conduct its business.

I am not suggesting that all regulations should be removed, as the business conduct of the industry affects the population as a whole, but the power of the free market should be the guiding force.

For example, the moment that I found out that a specific chain of gas stations was selling fuel imported from Chavez Venezuela, I stopped buying gas there, even if their prices were lower. And all those who I shared that info with did the same. Get informed and exercise your power, what a concept.

But Obama goes on unperturbed. In the speech, it was time to talk about alternative energy. The President boasted about wind and solar energy production, once again speaking about incentives for the expansion of those alternative sources. They have been an utter failure.

Here in California, we have a state sponsored board addressing the needs of Community Collages. This board gave $4 millions grant to an individual for the development of wind generated energy (and no, it did not include wind bags like LA mayor Villaraigosa or Sen. Boxer).

Ultimately, after several years, the $4 millions investment netted ONE wind turbine powering ONE 60W light bulb.

Then there is the hypocrisy of those who are all self righteous about the environment. In Massachusetts, residents of high value real estate are opposed to the eye sore that wind mills are. Yes, but not in my backyard. It should be mandatory in your low class neck of the woods, but not in mine.

On Interstate 10 in California, as travelers approach Palm Springs, they are greeted by literally thousands of wind mills littering the once beautiful desert rolling hills. They are a sight to behold, and in my opinion not all that ugly. The problem is that every time I have been driving through that area I have only witnessed a very small percentage of mills actually spinning. The area is one of consistent high winds, so they should all be spinning at all times.

In New Jersey, solar panels were placed on light post to power street lights. They are a true eyesore and the people are not happy.

What we hear from Obama is about all the government subsidies that are available for the people to switch their energy consumption to alternative sources, but the truth of the matter is that form many homeowners struggling to hold on to their homes, a tax break of few thousands of dollars is irrelevant if they have to invest $8,000 to $12,000 to install a solar system in their homes, funds that are not available to the everyday working family. Such government benefits are than limited to the most affluent earners, still requiring those of more modest means to contribute via their taxes.

The President also spoke about nuclear power. Considering the anti-nuclear energy crusade the regime’s media has conducted since the earthquake in Japan has brought the issue to the forefront of international consciousness, the assertion of Obama’s intention to boost that energy source is laughable. In the tradition of several of his predecessors, the increase in reliance on nuclear energy has been stifled by the powerful environmental lobby and practically decimated by green terrorism. It has been over three decades since the last nuclear power plant has been commissioned. This sector of energy production has fallen victim to a continuous offensive on the part of special interest groups successful in creating an aura of fear upon the entire technological sector.

It is difficult to actually believe that the most radical, progressive President in the history of the United States would be really serious about and will achieve any breakthrough in expanding this technology, something more conservative and pro-American presidents failed in the past.

Finally, it is amusing that the President would even mention “American Ingenuity” in his attempt to appeal to, once again, the fence sitters and the gullible, especially considering that since his first day in office and even during his campaigning, Obama has acted and spoken directly attacking such specific quality of the American society.

Ingenuity has been fueling this Nation since its birth. Americans have always used their ability to adapt and to improvise to achieve whatever success they have. Overcoming difficulties and obstacles of any nature has been the hallmark of the American social structure aided by political system that fostered individualism and self worth.

You may ask: what has changed? Truthfully, I do not believe anything has changed philosophically for the majority of the people of this Country. We still believe that the power of our Nation resides in its people’s desire to be left alone in the pursuit of our dreams and goals, without the intrusion of an overbearing government where few individuals, elected or not, have the power to impose ridiculously stupid and paralyzing legislation and regulations upon our lives.

What we are witnessing today is a clear attempt on the part of an elitist group of politicians to position themselves above the people they have been elected to serve, the best way to achieve this takeover being found in the appeal to a radical fringe of the population that is always ready to be extremely vocal about their demands.

Political correctness has emboldened such minority. From Madison, Wisconsin, to the streets of Phoenix, Arizona, from Los Angeles to Minnesota, we are seeing union thugs, illegal aliens and community activists seeking the philosophical change of the successful formula that has made and kept alive American Exceptionalism.

Since Pres. Lyndon Johnson started his War on Poverty five decades ago, the only people who have benefited from this “conflict” have been the radical leaders of the Left, demonstrating more poignantly that massive government intervention, unbridled spending and interference, achieve nothing more than feeding the virus of corruption.

Activists, for example, define higher education, college education, as a right of all people, demanding that the States absorb the cost of it which truly means the taxpayers.

Besides the fact that higher education is not a right, it can be argued that the current direction universities are going in regard to liberal brainwashing of students, it is questionable to expect that the working class of America would have to subsidize forces aimed at its very destruction.

So the President's message for the country is...more government! From the destruction of the coal industry to the takeover of the oil industry and the nuclear energy industry, we have heard his message and we are less convinced of what the real policy direction the Nation is moving toward. The only clarity we are left with is that he will not pursue energy independence and that every aspect of his policy will result in more financial burden for the average American.

Just my thoughts!
