The day has finally come. The day of the 2010 mid-term elections.
Many attributes have been attached to this day, all fairly accurate, but the one that has the most significance for me is the one of "crossroad." And it really is.
Today, simply stated, is the day when America decides its very future. We have two clear choices about the direction the Nation will be taking from this point on.
One is the continuation of the policies that the Obama administration has been instituting. From the day in 2006 when the Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress, the message has been clear: government was going to take control of the lives of the American people.
What sealed the deal was the election of Barak Obama as President. The message that liberal progressives took was that the people were willing to surrender their freedoms in favor of the government taking care of everything.
And as a pack of power hungry wolves, liberals saw a green light from the people to embark on a spending spree that had no precedence in the history of our Nation.
In less than two years, the federal government has spent more than all the previous US Presidents from George Washington to Ronald Reagan; it has taken over private businesses; it has intruded into the more minute aspects of the people's lives, from what they drive to what they eat; it has instituted a disastrous re-invention of the health care industry; and it has ushered a new reality of double-digit unemployment.
The political beating Republicans have taken in 2006 and 2008 whipped those who retained their job in Congress in a state of submission, more interested in getting along with their opponents than to take a Conservative stand against those forces that were pillaging the American people.
And both camps have demonstrated a total disregard for what the people want, desire and expect from their elected officials. The most common complain I have heard was "my voice is lost in the wilderness of Washington D.C."
So today We the People have the chance to vote for a second course of action: the election of politicians who will pay attention to the will of the American people, candidates who will restore the United States Constitution in the way the Founding Fathers intended to.
But even if the results of today's elections is favorable to the restoration of the original American principles and values, the fight is not over. As a matter of fact, it is exactly the opposite, as those who will gain the confidence of the people must remain true to the mission they have been given.
What I hope to see as the most important aspect of these elections is the message that we must send to politicians: the American People are in charge and if you do not govern with that truth in mind, you will pay the consequences.
On our part, we must understand that being educated and informed in the vicissitudes of our Nation is imperative. That living our lives detached from the Nation's issues, small and big, as long as they do not personally affect us, is no longer acceptable.
One of the most incisive aspects of American Exceptionalism is the tradition of individualism that has made the American experiment such a success for over 230 years. It is such individualism that has been under attack and has been eroded by the merchants of totalitarianism that have been roaming the Halls of Congress and the White House in the last few years.
Today, we are beginning to restore that individualism again.
Just my thoughts!

You have such a way with words!
ReplyDeleteI love what you are saying, how you are saying it.
I can tell that you are speaking from your heart.
Why man are you not running for public office?
If Ahnold "I'll be Back" Swartznegger who is not a natural born citizen can become the Governor of California then surely you can do as well or even better!
You have the gift expressing things succinctly.
You are also very correct in what you are saying.
I concur 1000%
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your words. Yes I am speaking from the heart, because I see an America that resembles nothing like the one I came to as an immigrant 30 years ago. I had the immense fortune to benefit from the opportunities our great Nation affords us, and I will be damned if I will just stand still and do nothing as some people try to take that fortune away from my children and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteAs far as running for office...no, I could not. Politics is a game of corruption, compromise and amorality. I would not survive in that arena. Especially in California!
Anyway, thanks again for your words. If you want to help , just pass this site along to your friends and family. We need to stand together as a People.
